Register for Sisters Against Ovarian Cancer 5-mile walk by Aug. 20

Sisters Against Ovarian Cancer (SAOC) announced the second 5-mile walk to benefit ovarian cancer research and genetic testing on Saturday, Sept. 12 in Stoneham. The walk is just one element in a series of awareness and fundraising initiatives SAOC has implemented. To date, SAOC's efforts have raised more than $76,000 for cancer research. The walk will spread its message of the importance of early detection in the treatment of ovarian cancer and raise money to support related cancer research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

"Not only are we raising money for research, the walk is a way to get the word out about early detection," Marie Spinale, founder of SAOC, explained. "If we can educate women about ovarian cancer and be a reminder to take their health seriously, we will have taken an important step in fighting this battle. We are so thankful for all the support we have received so far."

The SAOC Walk will start at the Stone Zoo in Stoneham at 9:30 a.m. Individual walkers and teams are encouraged to pre-register. Registration forms can be downloaded from www.sistersagainstoc.org/register.html and should be submitted by Aug. 20 by mail. The registration fee is $20. Registration tables open at 8:30 a.m. Walkers who have not pre-registered should arrive by this time. Walkers who have pre-registered should check in by 9 a.m. Registration forms can be mailed to: Sisters Against Ovarian Cancer c/o Marie Spinale; 123 Mitchell Ave.; Medford, MA 02155.
